Adviser Spotlight: Meet Anthony Pears

We’re excited to welcome Anthony Pears to Alteris Financial Group! He joined our Sydney office in January as a Senior Financial Adviser, bringing years of experience and a real passion for financial planning.

For Anthony, financial advice is all about relationships—whether with clients or his team.

“Working with clients and working with my team are different, but at the core, it’s all about building connections,” he says.

“With the team, it’s the daily chats and friendships that grow over time. I’ve only just joined, but everyone has been really welcoming. It’s great to have advisers to bounce ideas off.”

“With clients, it’s about trust. I’ve been in this industry for 25 years, and the bond you build is unique. You get to know the highs and lows of their lives, and it’s an honour to be someone they trust with their future.”

From FX options to financial advice

Anthony’s career path wasn’t traditional, but it turned out to be the perfect fit.

“I started in treasury at Westpac, working in FX options. But when the Asian currency crisis hit, I realised I wanted something different. I’d always been interested in finance and investments, but I wasn’t sure where to begin.”

“One day, I was in my dad’s office—he ran his own accounting firm—when I struck up a conversation with a financial adviser who rented space there. That chat led to a meeting with a Professional Development Manager, and before I knew it, I had my first job as a paraplanner in a small financial planning firm.”

“I loved working with investments, so I kept studying and eventually became an adviser. That turned into a 25-year career—proof that sometimes, the best opportunities come when you least expect them.”

A few fun facts

Anthony has a couple of interesting stories up his sleeve.

“As a teenager, I played men’s grade competition squash.”

“I got my name from my father before he saw me, as he thought he should enrol me at school, and they asked what is your son’s name and he said I don’t know, he was just born. So, that’s how I got Anthony!

“I also did cadets at school—it was almost a military school—so that gave me a strong sense of discipline and respect.”

Life outside the office

Anthony has always loved being on the water.

“I grew up around boats, and I have my own now. They say the best days of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it—and I can confirm, BOAT really does stand for ‘Bring Another Thousand’!”

In recent years, he’s also taken up running.

“I try to go for a run every morning. I’m lucky to live near the water, which makes it a great way to start the day.”
