Adviser Spotlight: Meet Michael Duffy

We’re excited to welcome Michael Duffy to the Alteris team as a Senior Financial Adviser. Based in Melbourne and bringing over 20 years of experience in the financial advice industry, Michael offers a sharp strategic mind, a strong client focus, and a genuine passion for helping people achieve their financial goals.

Michael kicked off his career by building his own financial planning business from the ground up. He was driven by a desire to make a genuine difference in people’s lives and quickly realised that financial advice was the perfect way to combine his love of numbers, strategy, and meaningful conversations. “I love getting to know clients, understanding what matters to them, and helping them make smart financial decisions,” he says.

After two decades of working solo, Michael is enjoying the change of pace and collaboration at Alteris. ”It’s refreshing to be part of a team that’s knowledgeable and genuinely committed to doing the right thing for clients. It makes showing up every day easy.”

Lessons from experience

Looking back, Michael says that starting and growing his own business was one of the most defining experiences of his career. It taught him resilience, the importance of trust, and how valuable it is to really listen. Over the years, he’s had some great mentors and has learned just as much from his clients, many of whom have shared life lessons that go well beyond finance.

Life outside of work

Originally from Ireland, Michael has called Australia home for more than 30 years. A fun fact that surprises many:  he once represented Australia in Gaelic Football! “Ireland will always be a special place for me,” he says, “but Australia has become home.”

When he’s not working, Michael enjoys coaching junior football and watching young players grow in skill and confidence. He’s also a keen golfer and loves to travel, always on the lookout for new places to explore and recharge.
